Hipkins calls the 13-day enrolment deadline the most draconian ever and Swarbrick says the government is actively suppressing votes. Election-day enrolment is two elections old and the date was named in January. Enrol by Sunday 25 October.
The Herald and the Post political editors both want Labour and National to kill the overhang, by simple majority and with no referendum. The overhang is MMP working. A big-two stitch-up is what MMP was built to stop.
Tamaki’s video was over the top, but police used a race law with a “contempt or ridicule” test on a religion row. A party “celebrating” October 7 is only being looked into. One standard for all, or the Crimes Act for real threats.
Labour and National on 28 per cent each, a debate of recycled lines and a prime minister who got the minimum wage wrong on live television. Wong says it looks like Labour. Electorate vote National, party vote ACT or NZ First.
Hipkins and Luxon tied on 20 per cent, National and Labour on 34 seats each and Opportunity holding the balance. The kingmaker who won the debate had already said dropping her own tax reform was worth considering. Electorate vote National, party vote ACT or NZ First.
Labour says Luxon costs you $6302 a year. National says Labour will cost you $2263. Neither of them is cutting your income tax. The only party offering a business tax cut it has costed is NZ First.
Winston Peters says Luxon and Hipkins will not decide this election and the media is still running it like first past the post. Two more Chris-on-Chris debates are booked. The kingmaker is the story nobody is billing.
Luxon has ruled out Opportunity, but he never said he wouldn’t take the call. On current polling the overhang strategy is the only way to keep Opportunity out and the coalition in.
NZ First is up to 12 per cent and 16 seats and that is what puts the coalition on 65. National’s party vote still buys no list MP. Electorate vote National, party vote ACT or NZ First.
David Seymour has called the government’s path to surplus “heroic”, four days before National shows its fiscal plan. When the junior partner says that about your books, believe him.
