If the wave of anti-Semitism was solely confined to ignorant students and ranting Muslims, that would be bad enough. That anti-Semitism has infested almost every institution in the West, from academia and media, to state bureaucracy, is horrifying.

If you think I’m being alarmist, then you’re not paying attention.

Last week, the [Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC)] asked consultant and self-described “anti-racism champion” Tasneem Chopra to “hold herself out” from ambassador work after a complaint was made against her and her social media posts.

Those posts include casting doubt on Hamas’s sexual violence on October 7, saying Zionists “lie, lie and lie”, that Israel had “forfeited its right” to exist, and that Zionists were “racists and white supremacists”.

This is the same AHRC, remember, which refuses to condemn Hamas for October 7.

Ms Chopra had been included on the AHRC’s list of anti-racism ambassadors for its “Racism – It Stops With Me” campaign, alongside former Socceroo Craig Foster, among others.

The same Craig Foster who wants to ban the Jewish nation from international soccer.

Ms Chopra is also a member of a Fire Rescue Victoria committee that advises the body on diversity and inclusion, as well as being on the advisory board to the Victorian Public Sector Commission.

The anti-Semitic rot is endemic and near-universal.

For those who would argue that “criticising Israel isn’t anti-Semitism”, we’re entitled to ask why slogans such as “Jew Die” have been used by “pro-Palestine” protesters. Or to explain this:

A government department employee is being investigated by the Ministry for Primary Industries after online antisemitic messages to Jewish women, including comments that “Hitler was right” and “you guys should never exist”, were sent from his Instagram account.

The employee in question claims his Instagram account was hacked, which may be. But that doesn’t change the essential point: the blatant anti-Semitism was masquerading as “pro-Palestine”.

In those messages, the employee or someone pretending to be him, tells Strull: “We hate Jews that support killing babies.”

“Go shove a kebab up ur greedy ass Jewish p*** … THE WORLD HATES YOU AND ISRAEL B****.”

Tell me again that it’s not anti-Semitism.

The incident happened after an Israel-based social media user shared a post stating: “It is 2024 and the number of Jewish people living in the world today is still lower than it was before the Holocaust. Let that sink in.”

In reply, a comment from the Wellington man’s account said: “We don’t care you guys should never exist Hitler was right … He probably take you out first.”

Nope, not anti-Semitic at all.

For every foaming, open anti-Semite like this, though, there are dozens of leaders who are too cowardly to stand up to their hate.

Jewish leaders were left fuming after Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan did not propose a traditional toast to Israel at a function to celebrate the anniversary of Israel’s independence.

The Premier’s office contacted Jewish organisers of the Independence Day function at Melbourne’s Windsor Hotel to request that the champagne toast to Israel be left off the running sheet for the program this year.

It is understood that the Premier’s office believed such a toast would be inappropriate given the current high community passions surrounding Israel’s war on Hamas in Gaza.

Or because of the high number of votes Labor stand to lose to the openly anti-Semitic Greens, as well as the high concentration of Muslim voters in key Labor seats.

As circumstances had it, Allan’s gutlessness was called out.

However the message did not appear to have reached the catering staff at the function who poured dozens of glasses of champagne in expectation of a toast that did not happen […]

Several accused the Premier privately of caving into the pro-Palestinian lobby by declining to participate in the toast […]

Ms Allan did choose to speak at the Israeli function on Wednesday night despite pressure from pro-Palestinian leaders not to appear at all. Former premier Daniel Andrews also attended the function but did not speak.

Anti-Semitism will triumph when cowards and sleazebags in positions of power are too gutless to stand up to it.
