In just over a week, donors have helped raise more than $32,000 for Ian Wishart’s Bust the Bias media accountability campaign.
That is a huge accomplishment.
The campaign was launched to support Ian’s High Court appeals challenging inaccurate climate reporting and testing whether broadcasters should be required to verify factual claims, accurately represent the evidence, and correct reports when challenged.
This case is not about putting climate change on trial. It is about putting climate reporting, and the broadcasting regulator, to the test.
Thanks to your support, Ian is now within reach of the $35,000 target needed to help cover court costs, costs exposure, and related legal expenses.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who donated, shared the campaign, encouraged others to contribute, or helped spread the word.
Your support sends a clear message: facts still matter in news reporting, accountability still matters, and ordinary New Zealanders are willing to stand behind those prepared to challenge powerful institutions.
Ian is representing himself, so these funds are not paying his personal legal fees. They are helping meet the real costs of bringing these cases before the courts.
To every donor, large or small, thank you.
To everyone who shared the campaign, thank you.
To everyone who believes the media should be held to the same standards of accuracy it demands from others, thank you.
Raising more than $32,000 in such a short time is a remarkable show of support.
