The reason the left has for wanting to shut down right-wing media and journalists is that, in their worldview, their cause is righteous and will bring about utopia. It is a totalitarian mindset.

The left are not afraid of losing control, because they are self-assured in having the media and educational and government institutions already on their side through a many decades-long process.

The left are not afraid of the competition of ideas, because that would require them to imagine that other ideas could exist which might be better, and a totalitarian mindset does not admit that possibility.

The left do not simply disagree, because they regard their work with the zeal of a mission.

And the left do not necesarily feel superior, because superiority comes from an engagement with other humans of similar (but lesser) value. The left views the right wing as something that should not even be allowed to exist, something sub-human like vermin or insects. Nobody feels superior to the cockroach that they kill with bug spray.

Too many on the right see that they might be able to persuade those on the left with their reasoning, like a school debating society. Unless the right shed that naivety, they will never understand why they don’t succeed against the left.
