Beyond bemusement, I’m now simply appalled by the media campaign of thuggery towards anti-mandate sympathisers which continues apace in Stuff today, opening with a deliberate lie:
“The bar for this election transparency project is very high. These would-be politicians (and in some cases sitting councillors) must have demonstrated a track record in spreading and amplifying a tide of falsehoods and social media lies, violent rhetoric or hate speech.”
Really? Only yesterday, in a disgraceful slander, Stuff took the torches, pitchforks and kosh to WCC candidate Nicholas Hancox, a musician (violist with the NZSO) who has not amplified a “a tide of falsehoods and social media lies, violent rhetoric or hate speech” but simply exhibited the treasonous temerity to stand by his views and make them known in a principled and intelligent manner, somewhat of a foreign country to Stuff.
Daring to email fellow musicians in explaining his stance Hancox cited “various journal articles, one claiming that increases in Covid-19 cases were unrelated to levels of vaccination”. Oh dear me, that will never do. The “one” article actually appeared in the European Journal of Epidemiology, hardly a lightweight, titled ‘Increases in COVID-19 are unrelated to levels of vaccination across 68 countries and 2947 counties in the United States’ for which Stuff curiously provide no link, but in refutation of said article provide three links, all three of which loosely agree with the original article’s findings but criticise methodology or likewise.
Stuff is too juvenile to understand that’s called science: postulate and refute, postulate and refute, repeat, repeat until we come to a broader understanding.
Stuff, like our prime minister only do the refute, deny the premise, decline to accept, put their fingers in their ears, and call people names:
“Stuff is drawing attention to these candidates because they cannot distinguish fairytales from reality. They are anti-science. They lack critical thinking and sound judgment.”
Pot, kettle, kettle, pot.
No balance, no science, Stuff are not just fake-news, they are news-frauds, thugs and petty slanderers.
