I initially thought that the headline writer was having a really bad day by misspelling “refusal” but I thought I’d better check the word just in case. Well blow me down, “refusenik” is an actual word but I’m not sure the journalist actually was suggesting that the lady was an Eastern European Jew seeking to leave Russia for Israel which is the dictionary definition.
The more recent definition is simply someone who is refusing to obey a law but even that is up for discussion as the woman in the story was not disobeying any law. The stuff up here I suppose is a smart arse journo using big words out of context.
