Stuff Up of the day

Stuff March 12th had an article about the coronavirus “outbreak” officially being declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation. Within that article, it states that New Zealand now has two cases of the virus.  I suspect the article was written some time ago in preparation for the declaration but I would also expect that it was at least checked and updated prior to publishing.  The impression I’ve been left with is an incredibly sloppy organisation with non-existent editorial standards.

[…] For example, you could say that because New Zealand has now had two cases of the novel coronavirus, we are experiencing an outbreak.
[…] That is yet to occur in New Zealand with coronavirus, as two cases seen in Auckland are believed to unrelated or “sporadic” as the patients had both just returned from different overseas countries – Italy and Iran – where they’re believed to have caught it.
