The Circus that is Parliament

Circus

Watching Parliament’s Question Time on Thursday was akin to having been given a free ticket to the Barnum and Bailey Circus.

The Speaker was at his pedantic best doing all he could to get under the skin of the Opposition. Michael Woodhouse, in the absence of Gerry Brownlee, had to intervene during questions from Chris Bishop to question what appeared to be a nonsensical ruling by Mallard. Incidentally, I am increasingly liking Bishop. He is destroying Twyford in Transport as Judith Collins did when he had the Housing portfolio. Winston, standing in for the PTPM, was playing to the bunch of numpties he put in power for all he was worth. Stupid is as stupid does. Loud guffaws from the clowns in the stalls.

Then we were treated to the extraordinary spectacle of the ex-weather man cradling his baby while asking questions. And just to make sure we noticed he started babbling in his native tongue. This is nothing short of bringing Parliament into disrepute. Babies have no place in the House. Was the crèche shut? I doubt it. It looked like some sort of prearranged childish, if you’ll pardon the pun, grandstanding. Answers to his questions were also given in Maori which was totally unnecessary. Again Woodhouse had to intervene. Mallard, somewhat reluctantly agreed with him.

The answers to most of the questions are hopeless. Ministers continually fall back on the nine years of this and nine years of that. These people are incapable of thinking for themselves hence hundreds of working groups. The amount of grey matter some of them possess, or the lack of how to use it, is being laid bare. Taxpayer monies are being wasted on people who are so out of their depth they’ve very quickly reached their level of incompetence.

Winston, you haven’t given us a government. What you have given us is a bunch of hapless individuals who, due to their lack of ability, will be hoping to avoid their local WINZ office next year by conning their voters to re-elect them. The country is crying out for a party that will actually make decisions and GOVERN.

Roll on 2020.
