The Elite Cancel Mob Come for BRS

They’ve convicted before the trial even starts.

He’s a hero to everyday Australians: naturally the elite want to tear him down. The Good Oil. Photoshop by Lushington Brady.

“Left-wing intellectuals did not, of course, actually want the Germans or Japanese to win the war, but many of them could not help getting a certain kick out of seeing their own country humiliated […] In foreign politics many intellectuals follow the principle that any faction backed by [their country] must be in the wrong” – George Orwell, “Notes on Nationalism”.

What Orwell wrote about British left-wing ‘intellectuals’ 80 years ago is even more damnably true today. These people hate Australia – oops, ‘the colony’ – and everything it holds dear. Witness the sustained left-wing assault on our most sacred secular day, Anzac Day. Left-wing historians are the worst offenders: continually sneering about ‘Anzackery’ and impotently stamping their feet as Anzac Day crowds continue to grow, swelled by the grandchildren of veterans, and migrants who’ve decided they are, in former PM Tony Abbott’s words, ‘on Team Australia’.

The clearly, disgracefully, orchestrated witch-hunt against Australia’s most decorated war hero is providing yet another excuse for these over-credentialled cretins to spit on our veterans and indulge in yet another orgy of leftist cancel-culture. That Ben Roberts-Smith has only been charged, and is thus fully entitled to be presumed innocent, matters not one whit to these vengeful half-wits.

Senior historians and former leaders have accused the Australian War Memorial of undermining its commitment to historical truth in its refusal to remove or relocate its Ben Roberts-Smith display in the museum’s Hall of Valour.

‘Former leaders’? The Age doesn’t name a single ‘former leader’, except for former coalition leader and former Director of the War Memorial Brendan Nelson. Except that Nelson accuses, not Roberts-Smith, but his attackers, whom he says, want to “tear down our heroes”.

In 2018, Nelson said the media’s pursuit of Roberts-Smith was an attempt to “tear down our heroes” and that “unless there have been the most egregious breaches of laws of armed conflict, we should leave it all alone”.

As if. They’ll go in, boots and all, to tear down our heroes, now that a hero’s head has been handed to them on a silver platter.

Michael McKernan, a senior lecturer in Australian history at the University of NSW and deputy director at the memorial in the 1990s, said Australia should no longer celebrate Roberts-Smith and that his uniform display should be taken from the Hall of Valour.

“You can’t leave it there – it’s ludicrous. I mean, he is now charged with five murders; let’s get real – that’s not good,” he said, calling for urgent action.

Note that: charged. Not convicted, as this absolute leftist bent spoon grudgingly admits.

“He has every right to be considered innocent until found guilty.”

And that’s the end of the story, isn’t it? But these haters can’t help themselves but take any opportunity to tear down heroes.

University of Canberra historian Frank Bongiorno said the Australian War Memorial “deploys a very kind of nationalist framing – it is a kind of temple to Anzac really”. He said there was a strong sense that the war memorial was “a kind of repository of sacred national stories”.

That’s because it is, you demented clown. And this is why the left hate it so passionately. Bongiorno, who studied under former communist Stuart Macintyre, is a passionate fan of socialist failures Whitlam and Albanese, whose election he cheered on as “the most significant shift towards a progressive politics since [Whitlam]”. Bongiorno also sneers about “jingoistic rhetoric” and “Anzackery”, and that the Diggers of the First AIF were, “imperial and white. Sometimes it carried with it, across the globe, racist ideas”.

Should we be at all surprised that these people are pouncing with unholy glee, now that the left establishment has ‘got’ a man who represents everything they so despise?
