The IRGC Have a Death Wish

Iran must be stopped for the funding of terrorism to cease. When that is achieved not only the Middle East but the entire world will be a safer place.

The IRGC (Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps) and other terrorist outfits like them are death cults. They shout “Death to Israel”, “Death to America” and you can also include death to Christianity, because that, in a nutshell, is what they are really about. Someone needs to call out this hatred done in the name of religion and someone has: Donald J Trump. Countries who align with his thinking should be on board but unfortunately many have decided on the cowardly approach, including NATO which, as usual, decided to chat rather than act. The Secretary-General of NATO, Mark Rutte, a believer in the Trump strategy, scolded them for it.

When Trump asked for assistance to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, the allies ran away. ‘It’s not our war’ they cried in unison. The woke womble of Westminster, Keir Starmer, poked his head out of his burrow to tell Trump that after the strait was open he would send a ship (if his navy has one operational) to help control shipping movements. This sort of carry-on is pathetic. Is this how Britain won the WWII? The Donald hit the nail on the head, saying, “He’s no Churchill,” a man whom Trump holds in high regard and displays his bust in the Oval Office.

The peace talks ended without agreement. Is anyone surprised? No. What then is the point of negotiating at all? The point of impasse is, and always will be, the right and ability for Iran to have an arsenal of nuclear weapons. Is that a right they should be allowed? Is that a sufficient reason for Trump to invoke a military operation against Iran? These are all pertinent questions when observing the consequences of such an action, particularly economic ones.

Is this a conflict based on religion? To the IRGC, now effectively running Iran, it most definitely is. This is about the eventual aim of supplanting Christianity with the Muslim religion throughout the world. The Jewish faith is top of the list, with Christianity coming a close second. Anyone who doesn’t accept this as reality, no matter how far-fetched it may seem, is naïve. An arsenal of nuclear weapons in the toolkit would speed up the ultimate aim. These terrorist groups, however, are minorities not supported by ordinary Muslims, many of whom want to live in a more Western society while upholding the tenets of their faith. This is the case in Iran.

Fundamentally, Trump’s intervention is about the risk entailed in allowing terrorists to have weapons of mass destruction. Think about it for a moment: any terrorist regime which finds it totally acceptable to slaughter 30,000 to 40,000 of its own people in pursuit of staying in power to achieve their goals is unlikely to have much, if any, regard for the rest of the planet’s inhabitants.

Would anyone argue that is not the case? These people have a death wish on anyone who opposes them. They, themselves, are prepared to die for their cause. You cannot reason with such irrational thinking.

These types don’t negotiate in good faith, but out of self-interest and to buy time – the same reason they agree to ceasefires. If they agree to have no nuclear weapons they will have destroy their own objectives and this is something they will never agree to. So, how does one go about preventing the manufacture and use of nuclear warheads? Options are limited, hence Trump has now gone, rightly or wrongly, for the military one.

In theory it is straightforward, bomb their underground storage facilities and installations as happened last year, ensuing that their nuclear objectives and military capabilities are put back many decades. This has mostly been achieved through precision strikes coupled with now the almost complete destruction of their air and naval capacity. Trump has made it clear this is his number one priority. The blocking of the Strait of Hormuz by the IRGC is maybe something he didn’t expect, with its subsequent economic global effects, but, as usual, he’s equal to the occasion. Blocking the waterway with his own navy is equal to the smartest move in a game of chess.

The result is to the detriment of the likes of Iran, Russia and China and of HUGE economic benefit to America. With the Strait of Hormuz shut, at least temporarily, to ships using Iranian ports, countries are turning to America to buy their oil and gas. This also ensures that the purchase of oil and gas continues to be in American dollars. China is now in an almost impossible position. Their Venezuelan supply has gone and now, so too has their Iranian supply.

The IRGC find themselves in an equally impossible position. Their options now are to agree to the American plan, including opening the waterway and having no nuclear weapons, or continue to be bombed while the strait stays closed and the world oil market shifts to the United States. If NATO and Europe ever needed a wake-up call, this is it. Their choice now is to assist in the opening up the Strait of Hormuz or buy their oil from America. Either way Trump wins. This strengthens America economically, geopolitically and militarily. This is Trump playing Monopoly and ending up with every piece of property on the board – the difference between a businessman and career politicians.

He has restructured the global world oil trade in America’s favour and likely prevented World War III for decades to come. The Western oil bloc, now controlled by the US is the only game in town. Trump did this to protect the strength of the US dollar and to gain leverage over the world’s largest oil importer, China. Iran was attacking the petrodollar system by offering free passage to vessels that paid for oil in Chinese currency. Trump shut down the Strait. Talk about playing the Trump card.

Trump will end up doing a deal with Iranian oil similar to what he did with Venezuela. Think of the economic benefits that will ensue for those two countries as well as America.

Most emphasis is on the military side but this is where things start to get complicated. Remember Trump’s call to the Iranian people that ‘help is on its way’? This was in direct reference to the people protesting for regime change; however canvassing shows Iranians are now seeing this possibility as a fading dream and so many are turning against the American intervention. They are worried that if the military objectives are achieved, but the regime is left intact, then they will be the ones to suffer the retribution.

So, Trump has a balancing act on his hands. He has an obligation to ensure that whatever regime ends up in control it must be different from the current one. While many see the return of the Shah monarchy as an answer, most just want a more democratic society in which to live. Failure to deliver this will result in not only further problems in Iran but a level of dissatisfaction with his MAGA base at home.

So why not just de-escalate as the left political leaders and our own Prime Minister Christopher Luxon are advocating? Is that the answer?

No. Trump didn’t start this military campaign to not finish it. Just as you can’t negotiate with these people neither can you de-escalate. That would be seen by the IRGC as capitulation. De-escalation solves nothing and those calling for it neither understand the enemy nor the art of warfare. Trump certainly does

The Iranian public want regime change. They are saying, quite correctly, that they haven’t endured all the suffering for that not to happen. Polls from 2024–2026 show 70 per cent to 80 per cent of Iranians oppose the current regime and its strict anti-Western ideological restrictions. Young Iranians, in particular, often adopt Western fashion, entertainment and social norms. There is widespread opposition to mandatory veiling and studies show a strong desire for the separation of religion from government and increased social freedoms.

If the IRGC continue on their path of a death strategy it will be a grave mistake, quite literally. These terrorists have to be dealt to: they cannot be left to continue their reigns of global threats and intimidation. And Trump knows this.

The IRGC death wish is further evidenced by their indiscriminate actions against their Arab neighbours. This will most likely backfire because those countries are waking up as to whose side they should be on. Iran must be stopped for the funding of terrorism to cease. When that is achieved not only the Middle East but the entire world will be a safer place. This is a vital aim that requires support and not the cowardice being shown by many world leaders. Even without them Trump is winning on all fronts. He just needs to sort out the tricky thorny issue of regime change.
