The Museum Has Lost the Plot

What the Auckland Museum has done is an insult, a slap in the face to every soldier who gave their life for this country. They deserve solemn respect, not this rainbow-washed PR stunt masquerading as progress.

Matua Kahurangi
Matua Kahurangi, unapologetically provocative, is infamous for his incendiary writings that challenge societal taboos and stir relentless debate.

The Auckland Museum, once a place of reverence and remembrance, has officially gone off the deep end. They’re now flogging a seven dollar “Inclusion and Respect Poppy Pin,” which they describe as “a stunning red poppy with a rainbow petal, symbolising inclusivity and diversity.” Seriously?

This is meant to “recognise the service of all those who serve,” they claim. Well, here’s a reality check: what an absolute fucking joke.

Our grandfathers, great-uncles, our koros, fought and bled in real wars. They didn’t charge into gunfire with rainbow flags or worry about pronouns in the trenches. They were there to protect our country, their families, and our freedom, not to push some modern ideological bullshit. If they saw what the museum is slapping on the poppy now, they’d be turning in their graves.

Let’s be clear: the poppy used to stand for sacrifice, for solemn remembrance. Now the museum has decided it’s a fashion statement for virtue signaling. They call it the “Serving with Pride Lapel Pin” and say it “celebrates the incredible diversity of those who serve across all areas of the defence force.” What the hell does that even mean?

This isn’t about honouring all who served. This is about hijacking a sacred symbol to push a woke agenda, just like how the TQ+ hijacked the LGB. And no, slapping a rainbow on something doesn’t make it meaningful. It cheapens it.

If my grandfathers were alive today and someone tried to tell them about the TQ+ movement, they’d think it was a bloody joke. Men pretending to be women, wearing lipstick and nail polish, being held up as heroes? F**k outta here. Men are men. Women are women. That’s biology, not bigotry. You don’t get to rewrite reality just because your feelings say otherwise.

What the Auckland Museum has done is an insult, a slap in the face to every soldier who gave their life for this country. They deserve solemn respect, not this rainbow-washed PR stunt masquerading as progress.

So yeah, Auckland Museum? Get f***ed.

Yes, I know there would have been and will be soldiers who fall under the rainbow community. That’s not the fucking point. The poppy already honours everyone who served, no matter who they are or who they shag. Why do we need a special f***ing poppy for a group of special f***ing people? We don’t get a “straight poppy,” or a “Christian poppy,” or a “left-handed Māori with anxiety poppy.” It’s meant to unite us in remembrance – not split us up into identity checkboxes.

Update: I’ve just been advised by @Zipitsweety on X that the Auckland Museum is also selling Toitu Te Tiriti pins on their website. How politically neutral of them!
