Sometimes this whole trans-Tasman rivalry thing gets out of hand. It was bad enough that Australia had to go and elect an inept socialist government right as Kiwis were throwing theirs out on its ear. But when the inept Australians socialists decide to out-inept their departed NZ comrades by going one better (or worse) than KiwiBuild, things are getting out of hand.
Especially when it’s failing every bit as hard as KiwiBuild.
Housing Minister Clare O’Neil says the government still stands by its target of delivering 1.2m homes in five years despite the Coalition accusing the government of a “flat out lie”.
“We’ve set this really bold and ambitious target of building 1.2 million homes over five years,” Ms O’Neil told Channel 9. “We’re four months into that target, and I, for one, am not waving the white flag.”
Everyone else is not nearly so confident.
Opposition housing spokesman Michael Sukkar said that the government target “stretches the bounds of credulity” when compared to actual building progress.
“The minister should be honest, come out today, fess up, that the Master Builders Association, the Housing Industry Association and the opposition are telling the truth and that is – there’s no way the government will get anywhere near their 1.2 million target,” Mr Sukkar told ABC RN.
“When you’re – as I said – at 158,000 [house building commencements], which is a third of the way short of 240,000, you’re nowhere near. And so at that point you’re lying to Australians.”
Especially when the hard data shows that we’re building fewer houses than before – at a time when Labor have flooded Australia with the equivalent of the entire population of South Australia in just two years. In fact, Labor have overshot their own immigration target by 100,000 people in just one year.

But Ms O’Neil, who was moved from Home Affairs into the housing portfolio after her performance was repeatedly attacked by the Coalition, remained committed to the government’s “ambitious goal” of building 1.2 million homes by the end of the decade.
Someone is doing very nicely on the housing front, though.
Anthony Albanese is spending a whopping $4.3m on a clifftop home on NSW’s Central Coast.
Like all wealthy socialists, Albanese clearly believes that some animals are more equal than others.
Albo’s also made his own little contribution to the rental crisis, by kicking out the long-term tenant from his investment property. His excuse for being just another bastard landlord was that he was selling it.

Mr Albanese last week pulled his investment property in Sydney’s Inner West from going to auction on Saturday, after evicting his tenant following years of “half-market” rent.
The three-bedroom townhouse at 29B Lewisham St in Dulwich Hill was slated to go under the hammer at 11am, October 12 with a $1.9m guide after it was purchased by Mr Albanese for $1.175m in 2015.
But what are we to make of someone who becomes a multimillionaire after spending all but the first two of his 43 years of adult life in politics?
