Thomas Sowell famously said, “Racism is not dead, but it is on life support – kept alive by politicians, race hustlers and people who get a sense of superiority by denouncing others as ‘racists’.” Not mention, making an awful lot of money out of it.
BLM founder Patrisse Cullors got fat, I mean, rich, with her unhinged race-hustling. Cullors bought multiple luxury properties in the US and Canada with money donated to BLM. Today, she faces the prospect of a very long prison sentence, as she and associates face charges of money laundering and wire fraud.
But few have got richer, by more egregious means, than the Southern Poverty Law Center. An indictment filed by the Justice Department has exposed how the SPLC literally lives up to the meme that real racism is in such short supply in the US today that activists have to pay people to make it up for them.
The SPLC has built a very large business on the claim that America is crawling with ‘hate’. It raises hundreds of millions by presenting itself as the expert on combating extremism, then exaggerating the threat to frighten donors into opening their wallets. The problem is that genuine, violent racism has become so rare that the supply no longer meets the demand the SPLC itself created.
So, what do you do if you can’t keep exaggerating hate? Well, you manufacture your own, of course!
If a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville isn’t quite big enough, you can just pay someone to transport more people to attend.
If your “extremist files” on homegrown Nazis are running a bit sparse, why not just throw a cool 70 grand at the problem?
If Americans are catching on that the Ku Klux Klan basically doesn’t exist any more, why not bankroll a Klan member’s lawsuit to try to sponsor a highway?
If those sound like the fever-dream of the media’s beloved ‘far right’ chimaera, they are in fact pulled straight from the court documents.
What does the SPLC have to say for itself?
Well, it claims that it hired “paid confidential informants” to “gather credible intelligence on extremely violent groups”.
In reality, it appears to have been looking over the shoulders of one of its stable of pet racists as he flooded the internet with garbage. ‘No, no… throw a few more “n-words” in there!’
This is a tried-and-true gambit for governments, of course. As is a matter of record, the FBI sowed paid agitators in far-left groups in the 1960s to egg them on to more and more violent and extreme actions, as a means of justifying a crackdown. The German government did the same in the ’80s and ’90s with anti-immigrant groups, seeding them with paid neo-Nazis, and then using that to discredit anyone protesting against flooding the country with millions of ‘migrant’ rapists. Canada also pulled the same tactic.
The SPLC just privatised it – and made mad bank while they were at it. The SPLC sits on an endowment of $739.4 million. The hate-inflation business has been extremely profitable.
The indictment alleges the SPLC used shell companies to hide the payments and conceal the money trail. The charges include six counts of wire fraud, four counts of false statements to federally insured banks and one count of conspiracy to conceal money laundering.
Thomas Sowell was right. Real racism is on life support in America. The people who make the loudest noise about it are often the ones with the strongest incentive to keep the corpse breathing. The Southern Poverty Law Center turned that incentive into an industrial-scale fraud at the same time as it deliberately tried to tear America’s social fabric apart with manufactured ‘hate’.
