Things that make me go hmm

My local Countdown will no longer sell alcohol after 10 PM following
“discussions” with the Hutt City Medical Officer of Health.
I have always found the staff at Countdown to be most helpful, and
have never encountered any drunk people when I’ve been there.
Shopping late is wonderful: park at the door, no queues, and few customers.
How on earth is this reducing the harm caused by alcohol?
Surely the thirsty hordes of Hutt City aren’t going to drive all the
way to Paraparaumu to replenish their supplies?
I note that cigarette sales will still be allowed after 10 PM.
