Does the SARS-CoV-2 virus really primarily affect the lungs? I ask because it seems to me on the evidence that the first organ the virus targets is the brain.
From the very beginning of the CCP pandemic, it seems as if most of the world has gone collectively insane. The complete abandonment of reason struck first among the elite — the politicians, bureaucrats and media — but has since spread to infect their opponents, especially since the rollout of vaccines.
Covid has frankly sent us all stark, raving bonkers.
On the one side, we have the witless Chicken Littles in power, screeching that we’re all gonna die if we don’t lock ourselves in our houses forever and get our 116th booster shot. On the other, a small but vocal anti-vaccination lobby have glommed onto the “Freedom movement” of people opposing the vast and growing government over-reach.
Both sides have dug in behind their ideological trenches and armoured themselves against all assaults of logic and evidence.
In fact, the more evidence against a particular ideological standpoint, the more each refuses to abandon it. Very early on, the evidence was clear that wide lockdowns were ineffectual (which is probably why no public health body recommended lockdowns, in pandemic plans painstakingly prepared over decades). The evidence has only grown stronger — and been more resolutely ignored. Yet, if lockdowns really worked, Melbourne, the most locked-down city in the world, would be a shining, covid-free beacon. Suffice to say, it is far from the case.
But, before the anti-vaxxers (from which group I specifically exclude the vaccine-hesitant and those opposed to vaccine mandates) get all smug, let’s consider their own stout resistance to logic and evidence.
The best evidence is that the covid vaccines lower (but do not eliminate) your chances of getting sick from the virus, and more importantly, ameliorate the severity of the illness if you do catch it.
Aha! Shout the anti-vaxxers. So why are cases rising among the vaccinated in places like Israel and Gibraltar? Take that, vaxxy-vax-head!

Gibraltar was lauded in March 2021 for becoming the first recognised nation to vaccinate the entirety of its eligible population. However, with a sizeable portion of the population having their second dose months ago, the government is now facing the unfortunate issue of waning immunity.
Okay, there’s a bit to unpack, here.
First: “cases”. The thing we must bear in mind above all is that “case”, here, does not refer to a “sick person”, much less someone in hospital or ICU. A “case” is simply someone who tests positive for the virus. Many, if not most (up to 80%) people who test positive for the virus would not otherwise even know it, because they feel no ill effects at all.
So: “case” is not “sick”.
But what about rising cases in heavily-vaccinated countries? Unfortunately, the anti-vaxxers pouncing on cases like Israel or Gibraltar are demonstrating a fundamental lack of understanding of statistics.
For argument’s sake, consider the hypothetical FlimFlam2 Virus:
People who are unvaccinated against FlimFlam2 have a 50% chance of testing positive, while vaccinated people have a 10% chance. Now, consider two different groups of 100 people: Group A has 90 unvaccinated people, while Group B has just 2.
Given the vaccine efficacy quote above, Group A will have 45 cases among the unvaccinated, just one vaccinated. But Group B will have just one unvaccinated case, and at least nine vaccinated.
Doesn’t this mean, then, that vaccinated people are more likely to catch FlimFlam2? No. The relative infection rates haven’t changed at all.
Still, what about waning immunity. Indeed, this is a well-attested fact, both from clinical trial data and real-world experience.
But — so what?
Covid is, like the flu, rapidly becoming just another seasonal virus — while more deadly than regular flu, it’s absolutely not the Black Plague. Guess what? The flu vaccine immunity wanes rapidly, too. Does anyone (apart from the hardcore anti-vaxxers) lock themselves into a conspiracy-theory death-spiral over it?
The reason waning immunity has become such a hot-button issue is, as has been a constant in the CCP pandemic, the elites lost their heads and over-egged the pudding. Vaccines were sold as a magic bullet that were going to stop the pandemic in its tracks. Populations have been cajoled, coerced and bullied into “get the vaccine and eliminate covid”.
This is, not to put too fine a point on it, absolute, rank, stinking garbage. Very few viruses have ever been eliminated completely by vaccination. Even those that are mostly distant memories resurge if vaccination rates decline below critical thresholds. Influenza has never even looked like “going away” because of seasonal vaccines.
Even worse is the arrant stupidity of governments and bureaucrats mandating covid boosters. While it might make sense, as the northern hemisphere moves into winter, to provide seasonal boosters to the vulnerable (especially the elderly), the idea that everyone, everywhere, must take a booster shot is senseless and wasteful. In fact, any need for boosters after just a few months is more likely a sign that many countries unwisely rushed to mass-vaccinate populations when it wasn’t needed (i.e. the northern summer).
Meanwhile, most of the developing world (not coincidentally, the “global south”) are waiting in vain for their first shots — right at the time they would be most effective.

[Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus] turned heads in his latest address by lashing countries for stockpiling vaccine doses, declaring booster schemes a “scandal that must stop now”.
He also criticised countries moving towards vaccinating children as young as 5 when millions of other genuinely compromised adults were still left out to dry across the globe.
