As I wrote recently, revelations that a homosexual male couple that included a convicted paedophile is sparking renewed questions over same-sex relationships, surrogacy and adoption. While there is no doubt that homosexual couples can be perfectly fine parents, statistical data on adverse outcomes is seriously lacking. Partly, it seems obvious, because the very subject is taboo in modern society, where anything other than full-throated cheerleading for homosexual lifestyles is condemned with a viciousness which would make a mediaeval inquisitor blink.

There are, though, some indicators that far more rigour must be paid to the fitness of at least some homosexual couples to be parents. For instance, despite chattering class assertions to the contrary, “a growing body of empirical evidence has begun to show that, in some crucial areas, children with same-sex parents do not thrive as well as their counterparts with man-woman parents”. Depression and anxiety are particularly prevalent.

Perhaps it shouldn’t be too surprising: we know, after all, that homosexual relationships are statistically more violent than heterosexual. Lesbian couples stand out as significantly more violent than others.

Behind the statistics, though, are some truly horrific stories. Whether these add up to anything more than isolated anecdotes is yet to be established, but they surely stand as a cautionary tale to a society which has rushed headlong into upending millennia of human child-raising norms.

Stories like this:

Jamie Varley, 37, and his partner John McGowan-Fazakerley, 32, were in the process of adopting Preston Davey, aged 13 months, when he died in July 2023.

Varley is accused of a serious sexual assault while alone with the child – who he and his partner had named ‘Elijah’ – and then ‘smothering’ him to death by obstructing his airways.

Varley was also found to have ‘indecent videos and images of the baby boy’ on his phone. He denied having a ‘sexual motivation’ for them.

Varley denies murder and 25 other charges including sexual assaults, GBH against Preston by breaking his elbow, cruelty and making indecent images of the baby.

McGowan Fazakerley, a sales rep, has pleaded not guilty to causing or allowing the death of a child, sexually assaulting Preston and cruelty.

Another ongoing trial, of a lesbian couple in Canada, is, if possible, even more horrifying.

A deranged Canadian couple allegedly laughed with each other about torturing their “hated” foster child to death, prosecutors claimed while delivering closing statements in an explosive murder trial.

Becky Hamber and Brandy Cooney, 46 and 44, sent each other sick text messages reading “shiver shiver dumb f–k” in the days before their 12-year-old foster child was found soaking wet, emaciated and unresponsive in their Ontario basement in December 2022, prosecutors showed during the trial.

The boy – known only as “LL” – was declared dead soon after that text, with authorities noting he was about the size of an average six-year-old. He is believed to have died from hypothermia or cardiac arrest brought on by malnourishment, Law and Crime reported.

Cooney and Hamber also sent each other damning texts just a month before the boy died — messages prosecutors said indicated they knew they were harming him, and that they “hated” him […]

The couple had been caring for LL and his younger brother since about 2017, and were close to adopting them despite years of alleged heinous behavior that included isolating the boys from each other and forcing them to live in filthy conditions.

LL allegedly slept on a cot that was often covered in vomit and only ever cleaned with a wipe, a social worker testified at the trial, which began in September.

It’s a wonder the Canadian government didn’t offer to euthanise the kids for them.

In a case in Oklahoma a decade ago, another lesbian couple were jailed for 20 years for the horrific abuse of a five-year-old.

Rachel Stevens, 28, and her partner Kayla Jones, 25, were booked into the Muskogee County Jail Tuesday on charges of felony child abuse by injury and child neglect.

The case first came to light in early December when Stevens’ five-year-old son was flown to St John Medical Center in Tulsa suffering from seizures and lesions on his face.

Doctors at the hospital contacted police after determining that the child had several broken bones in various stages of healing and appeared malnourished.

While the boy was receiving medical treatment, he suffered two strokes ‘due to his trauma,’ according to an affidavit cited by Tulsa World.

Investigators subsequently interviewed the little boy and learned that the child had been tied up, had duct tape placed over his eyes and had been kept in a locked room, the document states.

The toddler also claimed that his mother struck him on the hand with a hammer, and that both she and Jones hit him with a belt all over his body.

According to police, the horrific abuse went on for several months. The little boy said on one occasion his step-mother kicked him in the groin until he bled.

Again, these cases are anecdotal only, unless a statistical pattern can be established. If nothing else, they strongly suggest that government agencies overseeing child welfare need to be far more diligent.
