Today in history is a place for you early risers to exercise your brains as you wait for the day to begin. Please, by all means, bring your own bits of history to the comments section and add your memories of what YOU did on this day however many years ago.

10th June

1752,  Benjamin Franklin flies a kite during an electrical storm. The kite is struck by lightning, enabling Franklin to demonstrate the electrical nature of lightning.

1980,  A message from Nelson Mandela is smuggled out of Robben Island, it read “Unite! Mobilise! Fight on! Between the anvil of united mass action and the hammer of the armed struggle we will crush apartheid!”

1935,  Alcoholics Anonymous is founded by two recovering alcoholics in New York. The 12 step programme has helped countless people with their addiction.

1903,  Pierre Curie reveals the discovery of Polonium.

1906,  Richard John Seddon, “King Dick” to his friends, dies on board ship while returning to NZ from Australia. He had led the Liberal government.
