The land dispute was between Nelson settlers wanting to settle in the Wairau Valley, and Ngati Toa chief Te Rauparaha.
1885: The Statue of Liberty arrives in New York. A gift from the people of France, The statue was shipped in 350 pieces and in 200 packing cases. The statue was designed by Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi, with the assistance of Gustave Eiffel.1972: 5 men are arrested for breaking into the Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington.
362: Emperor Julian issues an edictbanning Christians from teaching in Syria.
1994: O J Simpson, wanted by the police for murder, is watched by millions of people as he leads the police through Los Angles in a slow speed pursuit in his white Ford Bronco.
