29th May Constantinople falls to Muhammad II ending the Byzantine Empire. 1453.Boris  Yeltsin is elected President of Russia.  I’ll drink to that. 1994.President Richard Nixon agrees to release over 1200 pages of Watergate transcripts. 1990.Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay reach the summit of Mt. Everest.  They might well be ashamed of the nonsense that goes on up there now. 1953.Mabel Howard becomes the first woman to serve as a cabinet member in a Commenwealth Country,  when she serves as Minister of Health and Minister in Charge of Child Welfare. 1947.
