Today in Rock History is a music orientated segment where we would like to encourage readers to share their thoughts and tastes in music and discuss the various aspects of any music topic. Music is a huge part of peoples lives even if we aren’t all music enthusiasts. Music is all around us in advertising, background noise in shops and on the streets. It’s inescapable when you have teenagers but for most of us, it is a huge part (if not a ritual) of our lives that we feel close to.

Born today in 1951, Bernard “Bernie” Marsden singer, songwriter and guitarist with many acts including Whitesnake and solo.
Born today in 1961, Phil "Wizzö" Campbell guitarist with Persian Risk and Motörhead.
Today in 1967, The Monkees went to number 1 on the UK album chart with “More Of The Monkees”.
Today in 1977, The Eagles went to number 1 on the US singles chart with “Hotel California”.
Today in 2024 Ignatius Jones died after a short illness aged 67. He fronted the shock rock band Jimmy and the Boys who pioneered the use of shock theatrics in Australia. By the end of the 1970s they were "one of the most popular live acts on the Australian scene". In 1981, they scored their only top 10 single with 'They Won't Let My Girlfriend Talk to Me', which was written by Split Enz leader Tim Finn.
