Born today in 1924, songwriter, singer and pianist Otis Spann who along with solo work recorded with many blues artists including Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker.
Born toady in 1946, Ray Dorset songwriter, singer and guitarist with Mungo Jerry.
Born today in 1950, Roger Hodgson songwriter, singer and guitarist with Supertramp.
Born today in 1951, Conrad Lozano bassist with Los Lobos.
Born today in 1961, Slim Jim Phantom (James McDonnell) drummer with Stray Cats.
Today in 1964 The Beatles went to number 1 in the US with “She Loves You”.
Today in 1970, Faces released their debut album “First Step”.
Today in 1981, REO Speedwagon went to number 1 in the US with “Keep On Loving You”.
Died today in 1991, guitar manufacturer Leo Fender aged 81. He was inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame despite never having learnt to play the guitar. Many notable guitarists have used a Fender including Jimi Hendrix, David Gilmour and Rory Gallagher.
Died today in 2002, John “Speedy” Keene songwriter, singer and drummer with Thunderclap Newman.
Died today in 2011, singer and pianist Joe “Pinetop” Perkins aged 97.
