President-elect Donald Trump has announced the appointment of Tom Homan, a staunch advocate of strict immigration enforcement and former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as the new “Border Czar.”

In this high-profile role, Homan will oversee all border security efforts, including Trump’s pledged mass deportation operation, which the President-elect aims to be the largest in US history. The appointment is indicative of Trump’s commitment to securing America’s borders and controlling illegal immigration, a cornerstone of his recent campaign.

Trump praised Homan’s experience and dedication to border security, stating, “There is nobody better at policing and controlling our borders.”

Homan, known for his strong stance on immigration enforcement, served as ICE’s acting director in 2017, when the agency increased immigrant arrests by nearly 40 per cent. His leadership reinforced Trump’s commitment to a secure and orderly immigration process, protecting American communities from crime and unlawful entry.

Homan has already outlined plans for a “humane yet rigorous enforcement operation”, emphasising that the focus will be on individuals with known criminal records or threats to national security. “The men and women of ICE are professionals who do this daily. When we go out there, we’re going to know who we’re looking for,” Homan said in a recent interview.

As part of his comprehensive immigration strategy, Trump announced “Operation Aurora,” designed to prioritise the removal of criminal elements among undocumented migrants.
