Pandora’s Box has been opened by the Labour-led Government. They’ve decided to entrench 3 4 5 6 7 8 waters legislation, which is a non-constitutional entrenchment. As David Farrar and multiple left-leaning constitutional experts have stated, this is a travesty and an appalling indictment of this Government. But the good thing is, it opens the door for subsequent governments to similarly entrench non-constitutional legislation.
David Farrar is thinking of polling for the most popular law for the next government to entrench:
In fact if the Government doesn’t do a u-turn, I will run a series of polls on Kiwiblog where readers can vote on what law they would most like a future centre-right Government to entrench. There have already been dozens of suggestions with my favourite to date being a law to ban union deductions from pay packets.

Let’s give him some more ideas for entrenchment. Here are some of mine:
- Provision of minibuses from Hamilton to Auckland instead of the $100m train
- End subsidies for NZSO and Royal NZ Ballet, and cancel the Concert Programme: replace with Spotify accounts for the 37 people still listening to it
- Defund America’s Cup if not held in NZ
- Arts budget capped until NZ nurses are paid the same as Australian nurses
- No government shall fund any commission for a minority group
- A law saying no one can serve in parliament if they cannot say “A woman does not have a penis” or “Men cannot give birth to babies”
- Remove the ability for anything other than natural persons to be members of political parties, removing affiliate memberships.
