Nigel Farage has emerged as the most successful British politician in modern times in having his entire agenda implemented, despite not having won an election or been in government; he is the British Sir Robert Jones in this respect. Thirty years ago Farage set out to take Britain out of Europe and, despite getting the grand total of 900 votes back then, has succeeded beyond his wildest fantasies.
Once that objective was achieved Farage moved on to the cancer infecting the British body politic – illegal immigration. He ran YouTube.com videos and Facebook posts showing boats of immigrants landing on British shores, of illegal immigrants being housed in five-star hotels and highlighting myriad crimes being committed by these folks once inside the UK.
The response from the British Tory Government was to simply deny it was occurring at all. It was all a fantasy cooked up by oddball racists: only stupid people believed there were illegal immigrants in Britain and, even if there were, it was racist and nasty to be critical of the problem. Time and again everybody from Boris Johnson, Priti Patel and James Cleverly to Rishi Sunak emphatically denied this conspiracy theory even existed – it was only Nigel trying to drum up ratings for his TV show and nothing more.
Farage stood for election as leader of the Reform UK party last July, easily won his own seat, obtained millions of votes on a tough anti-immigrant policy, and entered the House of Commons. Subsequently, the actual winner of the election, Sir Keir Starmer, set out to score a large number of ‘own goals’, which destroyed both his credibility and popularity within a matter of weeks and Farage catapulted into the mid-20s in opinion polls (just five per cent away from actually winning). Then something bizarre happens...
Recently Sir Keir Starmer, in a highly amusing act of desperation (he, too, knows how the UK electoral system works and knows Reform UK is three per cent away from being the largest party and five per cent away from a majority), holds a press conference and admits all. The Tory Government was running an open border, the country has been flooded with illegal immigrants and they are now running amok committing crimes and bringing different habits and cultures into nice neighbourhoods. And he (in effect) admitted it was all caused by the London chattering classes having an irrational self loathing and a loathing of white ‘Britishness’ – but, as they live in places that are too expensive for immigrants, it doesn’t really affect them.
(A cynic may also suggest Starmer is worried about a 2025 official visit to the US and being met in Washington by the Vice President, due to gaslighting on immigration.)
So the game is up. Britain will get tough on illegals as America is about to do. People will be sent home again. And, as far as Sir Keir (polling at only 28 per cent) is concerned, a photo opportunity showing him waving a boatload of illegals being sent home is far more important than any ‘human rights’ crap.
And the Tories? Well, they have a big problem.
