When Two Eggs Go to War

Laura Ingraham Hilary Barry egg

Laura Ingraham, who many of you will know from watching America’s only trustworthy cable news channel Fox News, is a woman of very high intellect. She is in good company as most presenters on Fox are of a similar ilk. Those on the other channels peddle falsehoods and a fake news narrative. It follows therefore that Fox News rates number one for viewers with about twice as many as the fake news networks. To be fair, their audience is spread as there are more of them.

Laura Ingraham, a presenter who hosts both radio and television shows is a strong supporter of Trump. She also supports Israel who she describes as one of America’s closet allies. Laura likes to court controversy. For example, in February 2018 she was criticised for making dismissive comments that NBA players Le Bron James and Kevin Durand should not opine on politics. Laura stated, “It’s always unwise to seek political advice from someone who gets paid $100 million to bounce a ball” and that the basketball stars should “shut up and dribble”.

Laura’s career includes working as a speechwriter in the Regan Administration. She has worked in various branches of the law including both the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court as a law clerk, and also in a law firm as an attorney. She launched the Laura Ingraham Radio Show in 2001 which was heard on 306 radio stations. Laura has been involved with television since 1996 and with Fox News since 2008.

Laura has penned a number of books most of which have hit the New York bestseller list. She has attacked “Hollywood elites” and the UN, accusing them of subverting the United States in a book entitled Shut Up and Sing. Another book, The Obama Diaries, is a series of fictional entries from the then-president Obama’s diary exposing his true thought processes and plans for America. As you might expect her imaginings of his inner mind were not flattering.

Laura’s net worth is around $70 million. This is the woman our very own self opinionated and self-styled superstar Hilary Barry called an “egg”. Looking for publicity, as she always does, she saw an opportunity after Laura made some comments critical of her hero Ardern. The comments were concerning our isolation facilities which she called camps. They should be camps instead of the five-star accommodation the taxpayer is providing at great expense. However, Hilary, who has an ego to match the mountain her namesake climbed, took the opportunity to have yet another moment in the sun. Sure enough, the left-wing NZ Herald rose to the occasion, putting her name up in bright lights.

Having seen what a success Laura has made of her life I thought I’d see what a success Hilary has made of hers. Her career is similar to Laura as it has involved both radio and television. The difference is that Laura’s has involved hard-hitting current affairs, including many one on one interviews with the President, while Hilary’s have involved mainly reading from bits of paper or an autocue. Not quite in the same league. She has spent most of her career with MediaWorks either as a reporter or as a newsreader.

According to Wikipedia, her two career highlights both feature her losing her composure. She laughed uncontrollably when reading a news item about the Malaysian diplomat who admitted going to a young woman’s home with no pants on and defecating on her doorstep. Personally, I don’t find much to laugh at in that. Rather unprofessional. The second time was when she choked up watching a news story on John Campbell’s departure from TV3 and couldn’t carry on reading her own. Very unprofessional.

She herself resigned unexpectedly from TV3 amid rumours she was moving to TVNZ. When the MediaWorks CEO Mark Weldon resigned five days later Barry and co-host Mike McRoberts were seen carrying champagne and beer into the MediaWorks offices to celebrate. When entering the offices Barry gave a “v” for victory sign. Very childish and in fact a sackable offence in my day working in the media. If both Hilary and Laura turned up for an interview for the same position it would be a no brainer as to who to employ.

Having read the article, I invite you to be the judge as to which one is the egg.
