Who Ever Could Have Foreseen This?

PinkNews bosses accused of predatory behaviour.

Ben Cohen and Anthony James, alleged predators. The Good Oil. Photoshop by Lushington Brady.

Well, I’m shocked – shocked, I tell you. Whoever could have imagined that prominent ‘LGBTQI+’ (or whatever) activists would turn out to be predators?

The two men who run the world’s largest LGBTQ news website are facing accusations of inappropriate behaviour by staffers.

Benjamin Cohen, the founder of PinkNews, and his husband, Anthony James, a director at the UK-based outlet, were accused of sexual misconduct, bullying and misogyny by current and former employees.

No!

I mean, it’s not as if we’ve seen one prominent ‘queer’ activist after another exposed as predators. Well, ok, there was this one, this one, oh and this one… not to forget these two. This one and this one.

Anyway, apart from all those

Now, to be strictly fair, the allegations against the PinkNews bosses – who are strident in their promotion of Queer Theory ideology – are so far just that: allegations. A lot of allegations.

Some of the allegations, too, sound like old-school office predatory behaviour: the sort of stuff you’d associate with the Mad Men era. Yet, that sort of behaviour would get a straight CEO sacked, these days.

Cohen allegedly invited one staff member to come “back to his” and smacked another on the bottom at a Christmas party.

The BBC said it interviewed 33 people who worked at the company between 2017 and 2024 for its documentary, PinkNews: Behind Closed Doors, many of whom claimed there was a heavy drinking culture that led to incidents where both Cohen and James acted inappropriately with younger male staffers.

One of the most serious allegations (so far) though, is well and truly beyond the pale.

Five former PinkNews employees said that they witnessed James groping and kissing a junior staff member outside a London pub where employees were enjoying a night out after a PinkNews event.

They noted that the employee was “too drunk to stand or talk” and “unable to consent.”

One ex-staffer, who claimed James led the young man behind a tree, said: “Anthony was just forcing himself on somebody who wasn’t able to make that decision for themselves because of how intoxicated they were.”

They’re (allegedly) not just predators, but bullies.

Staff also called out the workplace’s “toxic” culture, claiming Cohen would often shout at and belittle employees.

And a website that champions gay surrogacy – essentially, wealthy Western gay men using women from poor countries as little more than incubators – is, surprise, surprise, run by (allegedly!) blatant misogynists.

Others mentioned the misogyny that existed at PinkNews, with several women claiming they were encouraged to act as surrogates for the couple.

Are we’re surprised that they’re such vociferous defenders of the most misogynist ideology around: transgenderism?

The outlet claimed that they have seen a range of evidence, including official complaints, private emails and WhatsApp messages sharing concerns and doctors’ notes referring to stress and mental health problems attributed to working at the company.

All this might be dismissed as just another toxic workplace culture. Except that this is the most prominent and powerful ‘LGBTQI+’ mouthpiece in the world and one that has had the ear of some of the most powerful people in the world.

PinkNews, founded by Cohen in 2005, has grown to become a prominent and influential voice for LGBTQ+ people, and was central to the campaign for equal marriage in the UK. Keir Starmer, the prime minister, addressed the PinkNews awards in 2022, while Rishi Sunak and Jeremy Corbyn have been interviewed. Boris Johnson, David Cameron, and Tony Blair have written for the site.

Now watch them dropped faster than Mermaids, the child-transition advocacy group.

Until the next crop of ‘LGBTQI+’ predators takes their place.

No wonder so many decent gay and lesbian people are distancing themselves from ‘LGBTQI+’ activism and its most vocal spokespeople entirely.
