Hi everyone,

It is about time I introduced myself. My name is Lyn and I am the new weekday editor of the Good Oil. Juana and Cam hired me two-and-a-half years ago as the weekend editor and in June I stepped up into the weekday role.

I am a Kiwi mum living in the South Island. I have four children: two grown and away from home and two in their late teens, one of whom is disabled. It’s not easy managing employment around a child with disabilities, so 12 years ago I became certified as an editor and started up my own freelance business. I have edited newspapers, books, websites and theses and continue to hone my skills.

I have known Cam online for over a decade and have really appreciated his content. When the BFD advertised for a weekend editor, I jumped at the chance, applied and got the job. I have not looked back.

On busy days, when I edit 100 articles for you lot (OK, maybe 15, plus other things I need to schedule), I may miss something. I have an awesome group of proofreaders backing me, but, occasionally, the odd mistake gets through. We are all human (no AI: the boss won’t pay for it). The amazing team behind the scenes is always ready to help when I fall flat on my face, e.g., with tech issues (read: female and blonde). They have been so patient with me.

It’s been a bit rough since Juana left, but I’m trying to fill her shoes. The weekends are quiet on the Good Oil, as I have other clients to attend to (or, failing that, housework). I thank you all for persevering with us through this transition.

In due course, I’ll set up View From Your Window again, because I know many of you enjoyed it. I had to let it go as we headed to the new website and set up new email accounts, etc. Any enquiries you have or articles you want to submit for consideration can be sent to editor@goodoil.news. I will endeavour to respond in a timely manner.

Politically, ’cos I know you want to know: I was raised National, went to uni (Massey: don’t laugh) and started voting Labour…until 2017, when I voted NZ First. I’m a conservative Christian, which, these days, makes me ‘far right’.

That said, my own personal political views get left at the door when I come to work. Free speech and the ability to debate anything and everything is of the upmost importance.

I’m so glad to be here and very grateful to Cam and Juana. I may be quietly working behind the scenes, making sure you see the content our MSM won’t give you, but I know we are fighting the good fight.

Feel free to ask me anything in the comments. I’m sure the Good Oil team will tell you that I’m honest and open to fault: to me integrity is everything. I’ll try to respond to all but will be setting up the next load of quality content for you at the same time.

On Disqus, I am Lyn F and my profile pic is a blue-footed booby.
