Winston Peters: Greens part of ‘insipid cancer of woke’

“New Zealand First declared a war on woke, and we’re on the front line of it.”

New Zealand First leader Winston Peters delivered a blistering speech attacking the Green Party over its defence of MP Benjamin Doyle, accusing the party of losing sight of its environmental roots and embracing radical ideologies.

Peters mocked attempts to explain away sexualised content posted by Doyle—including the term “bussy”—as standard queer slang.

“They’re trying to explain to New Zealand what the term ‘bussy’ means… Oh no they don’t. That ain’t true,” said Peters, claiming the Rainbow community itself was disgusted with the Greens’ justification. He added, “New Zealand First declared a war on woke, and we’re on the front line of it.”

Peters criticised Green co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick for allegedly lying about not following Doyle’s account and said the party’s failure to report alleged threats to police undermined its credibility. “They never told the police, just told the public,” he said. “That’s why it’s a fraud.”

He warned of a “day of reckoning” once the contents of Doyle’s deleted posts are fully exposed and called for political accountability, declaring: “Our pronouns are T and V — truth and verity.”
