Like most boys their age, my sons had to endure reading Jasper Jones in high school English. Like the Netflix series Adolescence, it’s the typical sort of woke garbage tilty-headed school feminists love to inflict on long-suffering boys.
Hopefully, no longer.
One of the nation’s most-loved children’s authors has been charged with multiple child exploitation offences.
Craig Silvey, whose best-selling books include Runt, Jasper Jones and Honeybee, was arrested at his home in Fremantle on Monday and was scheduled to appear in Fremantle Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning […]
Mr Silvey’s books are among some of the most loved in the country, with Honeybee and Jasper Jones voted into last year’s Radio National Top 100 Books of the 21st century, at 25th and 24th respectively.
“Most loved”. By the left-wing-feminist-dominated literary and education establishment, maybe. Not to mention the tiny wokeists who make up the ABC’s sole audience.
Only yet another of their golden idols is (allegedly!) caught as just another predator.
Court records confirmed that Craig Nicolas Silvey had been charged with one count of distribution of child exploitation material and one count of possession of child exploitation material.
Just what is it about the right-on literary establishment?
An annual writing competition for WA school students has been named after Mr Silvey since 2023.
But possibly not after 2026.
Although, don’t underestimate the luvvies. After luvvy literary icon Dorothy Hewitt was outed as a child-sex pimp who turned out her own underage daughters to the cream of the ’70s Australian glitterati, the left were outraged when it was suggested her name be removed from a literary award.
The tribalist left who demanded Barry Humphries name be removed from a comedy award, simply for having some un-right-on opinions about trannies, will fight tooth and nail to keep actual paedophiles’ names on awards.
At least one institution, though, isn’t.
The news of Mr Silvey’s arrest prompted the City of Subiaco to issue a statement saying the author will no longer have any affiliation with its Young Writers Award.
The question, of course, is whether this is the full extent of his (alleged!) crimes.
Magistrate Thomas Hall granted Mr Silvey bail, saying “imprisonment is a likely outcome”, but he was not convicted at this stage.
The police prosecutor opposed bail, telling the court Mr Silvey was not cooperating with investigators.
The prosecutor said Mr Silvey had engaged in an online conversation during which he expressed a sexual interest in children, and there was evidence he had provided images.
The prosecutor said he had used an adult website, using the name ‘Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy’.
He told the court the author had declined to allow detectives to gain access to his mobile, desktop and other devices and a court order was being sought to ensure compliance.
The prosecutor said Mr Silvey “may hinder the investigation” and described him as a “flight risk”.
Is he hiding even more crimes?
