10 News Stories They Chose Not to Tell You

This is edition 2025/204 of the Ten@10 newsletter.

Hi all,

This is the Ten@10, where I collate and summarise ten news items you generally won't see in the mainstream media.

Enjoy!

1. Who do Maori support?

David Farrar

  • 🗳️ Whakapapa Maori voting preferences:
    • Curia's poll finds more whakapapa Maori voters lean towards National than Te Pati Maori.
    • Only 1 in 6 whakapapa Maori support Te Pati Maori, while a significant portion votes centre-left.
  • 💬 Centre-left vs Centre-right split:
    • Whakapapa Maori vote overwhelmingly centre-left, unlike non-Maori voters who favor centre-right parties.
  • 🇳🇿 Primary ethnicity breakdown:
    • Whakapapa Maori identifying as Maori favor Labour 33%, TPM 29%, and National 12%.
    • Those not primarily identifying as Maori support Labour 31%, National 25%, with just 3% for TPM.
  • 🎤 Media caution:
    • The analysis warns against portraying all Maori voters as having a singular political viewpoint.
  • 🏛️ Voter segmentation:
    • Media should avoid over-simplifying Maori support and recognize diverse political affiliations within the whakapapa Maori community.
