10 News Stories They Chose Not to Tell You

This is edition 2025/44 of the Ten@10 newsletter.

Welcome back. It's 2025 and 20 years since I started writing about politics and anything else that took my fancy. Thank to my VIP members for making this site what it is today. In July we will be having a 20th birthday celebration. Stay tuned for more announcements.

This is the Ten@10, where I collate and summarise ten news items you generally won't see in the mainstream media.

Enjoy!

1. Eliminating Woke

Muriel Newman

  • 🇳🇿 National's Struggles: National seems to have lost sight of why they were elected, failing to deliver on many key issues.
  • 📉 Labour's Failure: Labour’s incompetence during their time in office left New Zealand with soaring inflation, crime, and a failing economy.
  • 💼 Lack of Progress: National is making some progress but is failing to address the broader issues that motivated voters to seek change.
  • 🏛️ Labour’s Factions: Labour’s party is driven by powerful factions like unions and identity-focused groups that skew policy and decision-making.
  • 🏳️‍🌈 DEI in Public Service: Under Labour, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies were pushed heavily, reshaping the public service and prioritizing identity over merit.
  • 🌍 Impact of He Puapua: Labour’s agenda to push tribal governance increased the number of Maori managers in key areas, altering the landscape of New Zealand’s public sector.
  • 🌿 Woke in Conservation: Conservation efforts are now heavily influenced by “woke” ideologies, and critics argue that the conservation movement has been overtaken by political correctness.
  • 🏫 Education Shift: The 2020 Education and Training Act shifted the focus of education from academic achievement to Maori rights and Treaty obligations.
  • 🏢 Private Sector Pressure: Private organizations are being forced to adopt Treaty-based constitutions, reflecting the ongoing influence of Labour’s policies.
  • ⚖️ Meritocracy vs. DEI: Critics argue that DEI is undermining New Zealand's meritocratic system, lowering productivity, and discriminating against individuals based on race, gender, and sexuality.
  • 🛑 National’s Missed Opportunity: National must address these issues, and fast, or risk being seen as a weaker version of Labour. New Zealand First's bill to end DEI policies is a potential solution.
  • 🚨 Need for Change: National must adopt New Zealand First’s bill and remove race-based discrimination from employment practices to regain trust and move the country forward.
