When it comes to railing against “covid-19 misinformation”, the mainstream media really might want to sit this one out.
After all, they’re the ones who’ve lied, shouted down actual experts while promoting glorified lab technicians and scientists with unrelated qualifications as “experts”, and endlessly, endlessly hammered fear and panic.
Especially in New Zealand, where the mainstream media are on the government payroll. These bought-and-paid-for info-whores are the last people to be lecturing anyone on “misinformation”.
Health agencies around the world, working against the clock to get their populations vaccinated, didn’t have time to develop public health campaigns that spoke effectively to the vaccine-hesitant. They basically said, “trust us, it’s safe”. That was insufficient and even counterproductive.
The second factor was the wave of FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) that was cynically spread about the vaccines.
Stuff
He actually wrote that with a straight face.
Cynically spreading fear and doubt? This from the mainstream media and their government string-pullers who shrieked that 83,000 people were going to die in New Zealand. “Tens of thousands of people would die, our health system would collapse and people wouldn’t be able to get proper treatment.” Those are the words of the Ardern government’s “expert adviser”. An epidemiologist? No, a physicist who, by his own admission, worked from his kitchen table.
Not even the bad excuse of trying to model a new disease will wash, either, because even late last year, the same “expert” was predicting that 7,000 New Zealanders would die.
Reality check: New Zealand’s death toll is just 65.
Of course, Shaun Hendy is only playing the same game of ludicrous fear-mongering we’ve seen played out around the world. He’s just a pathetic little shadow of the dark prince of fear-mongering, Professor Neil Ferguson, another unqualified “expert” who has an unbroken track-record of disastrously wrong predictions. Even in Australia, the “expert modelling” has been consistently, grossly wrong.
Disinformation and fear-mongering? Take a look in the mirror, mainstream media.
“They are responsible for deaths,” shrieks Stuff.
The beam in your own eyes, you lying creeps.
The mainstream media, in lockstep with their government paymasters, have endlessly campaigned for strict lockdowns. Except that now we find that lockdowns have led to more deaths than they prevented, as cancer check-ups are abandoned and elective surgeries cancelled — and suicides soar.
The last is also testament to, not just the deaths that have resulted from government policy and mainstream media lies, but the abject toll of ongoing misery, anger and frustration. Businesses closed, marriages broken, and a generation of children growing up paralysed by fear and unable to even talk properly, because of the unscientific mania for mask mandates — also cheer-led by the mainstream media.
There’s a “group of superspreaders of disinformation” with blood on their hands, all right — but they’re not based in Russia. They’re based in Wellington.
To answer your own question, “how do we address harmful misinformation?”: easy — turn off the tv. Cancel your newspaper subscription.
Most importantly of all, cut off the $55 million of propaganda funding to a shamefully, hopelessly, compromised and untrustworthy media.
