The Conservative Party of New Zealand would like to express its profound sorrow regarding the political assassination of Charlie Kirk.

Charlie Kirk was a central figure in American conservative politics for over a decade.

As the founder and president of Turning Point USA, a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting conservative values on high school and college campuses, Kirk played a key role in shaping the political views of a new generation of right-leaning Americans.

Founded in 2012 when Kirk was just 18, Turning Point USA gained national prominence for its aggressive campus outreach, media campaigns and events like the Student Action Summit.

The organisation’s hallmark is its sharp criticism of left-wing policies, strong defence of capitalism and focus on free-speech advocacy.

Its influence is especially pronounced in digital media, where it has cultivated a massive online presence.

Kirk was also a prolific commentator, podcast host and author.

Through The Charlie Kirk Show, he discussed cultural, political and religious issues with guests ranging from elected officials to thought leaders in conservative circles.

His messaging blended libertarian economics, Christian conservatism and American nationalism – making him both influential and controversial.

Kirk’s critics argued that he contributed to political polarisation and misinformation, while his supporters saw him as a bold defender of American values in a time of cultural upheaval.

Regardless of where one stands, Charlie Kirk became a defining voice in the 21st-century conservative movement.

For Charlie Kirk to be assassinated for expressing conservative views within the sanctuary of free speech is abhorrent, and it is hoped that the perpetrator of this despicable crime will face appropriate justice for their actions.
