Charlie Kirk was an advocate for justice. He spoke out on his belief in Christianity, the right to life, freedom of speech, the traditional family and for opposition to the war on women and the murder of unborn children.

Fighting over language may seem trivial but it never is. The words we use to think and communicate are of vital importance. We cannot let ‘paper terrorism’ become the new scare campaign to take away more of our liberties.

If our brightest young people are finding it increasingly difficult to read – as we are hearing from tutors in top universities – is our heritage going to continue to be studied, critiqued and transmitted to future generations. If not, how are future generations going to be able to build new things?

Charlie showed that a true free-speech champion listens, seeks to understand, allows disagreement, and is willing to admit when they are wrong or have more to learn. And he embodied what it means to stand strong in your convictions and share your perspectives boldly.
For science to survive the culture wars, scientists must be willing to evaluate indigenous knowledge without dismissing it outright or accepting its veracity uncritically, but duly evaluating it on merit, regardless of cultural significance.
If we stop exposing children to these hazards in the first place, that would stop the epidemics of chronic illness in children. Now we must summon the political will to act.
