Whistleblower Barry Young is standing for election in Wellington North under the Outdoors and Freedom Party banner in this year’s election.
Barry Young is the former administrator who developed Health New Zealand’s pay-per-dose Covid vaccination databases. He is being prosecuted for leaking anonymised data on more than four million vaccination records dating from 2021 to 2023. He claims the data show a sharp rise in deaths after people were vaccinated. The courts are still to determine whether he is protected under the Protected Disclosures (Protection of Whistleblowers) Act 2022.
Mr Young told a meet-the-candidates’ meeting in the suburb of Wadestown this week that politics doesn’t appeal to him and that it seems more like a “uniparty” with the same policies. He said he is standing to speak truth to power. We need to recognise the harms done in New Zealand since 2021, he said.
