Big Tech Protects Violence and Hate

Looks like it’s time for service providers to remove Facebook from their servers and for Google to blacklist it from search results and remove Facebook apps from Google Play. No doubt Apple will ban Facebook from its App store.

That’s how it works, isn’t it, if a platform is being used to host violent content?

After all, Parler was banished to the outer darkness just because of a handful of posts allegedly inciting violence at the Capitol.

Surely it’s much, much worse that Facebook is hosting live-streamed snuff videos?

A 15-year-old girl was stabbed to death at a grocery store during an alleged fight with four other girls, all of whom were younger than she was, police said.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23 at a grocery store in Lake Charles, Louisiana, when a fight took place between a 15-year-old girl and four other females all between the ages of 12 and 14, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) said in a statement on social media.

The cause and the motive of the altercation is currently unknown and was not disclosed in the CPSO statement.

It’s rather telling just how much they’re not telling us, rather than what they are. After all, the media is awash with headlines about “White mans stabs black man to death”, “White man accused of killing black teen”, “White man who stabbed Black college student”.

But what’s really damning is the fact that it was all on Facebook.

[Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso] also disclosed that much of the evidence that authorities were able to gather came directly from videos posted to social media.

“Our whole case unfolded before us through live Facebook and Instagram … we have videos of everything that took place and it’s very disturbing,” said Mancuso. “The whole murder was played out on [social media] so, again, there appeared to be no remorse.

This is far from the only, nor is it the least, horrifying act of violence hosted on Facebook.

From random murders in Cleveland to the extended torture of a disabled man, it’s all been streamed on Facebook. BFD readers, of course, will remember that the Christchurch massacre was beamed live to the world by Facebook.

Other social media giants are little better. Journalists Alison Parker and Adam Ward were murdered on camera in 2015. For at least a year, that footage was still available on YouTube and Facebook. When Parker’s father tried repeatedly to get the tech giant to remove the footage, he was advised by Google to “view and flag the content I found offensive myself. They wanted me to watch my daughter’s murder and explain why it should be removed.

Not one of those platforms has been held to account, yet Parler was banished.

It’s almost like Big Tech doesn’t really care about violent content, but are merely conspiring to eliminate ideological enemies by whatever means necessary.

After all, how else can one explain Twitter banning Donald Trump, while child abuse material remains?
