By Dodging the Question Todd Muller Admits He’s Been Plotting

National’s caucus has become a colander. Caucus meetings are now leaking moments after they’ve finished. Simon Bridges is now answering more questions about his leadership than anything else and what I’ve been saying all along has been proven true.

National’s caucus hasn’t seen their internal polling in months and there are plots to topple Simon Bridges.

Todd Muller was asked outright about his plotting against his leader and when the question was put to him he obfuscated:

Simon Bridges is among those trying to hold onto their jobs during the COVID-19 crisis, as disgruntled National MPs leak and plot against him, with some saying internal polling numbers haven’t been seen since February.

National MP Todd Muller is among the rumoured National Party leadership contenders, but the answer to the question of whether that’s really a possibility is always no.

But when Newshub asked whether he’d run for leadership – he dodged.

“I need to stop puffing first. Those hills are tough.”

Busted. Todd Muller couldn’t tell a fib and his cutesy answer has condemned him. No wonder Simon Bridges has been chasing up dirt on Todd Muller from way back when he was at university and got in a spot of bother over some funding.

Mark Mitchell told the truth…well sort of:

Fellow leadership contender National MP Mark Mitchell ruled it out when Newshub put the question to him before National’s caucus meeting on Tuesday morning.

“I’m definitely not running for leader, Simon’s got my 100 percent support,” he said.

No, Mitchell isn’t running for leader, he’s running for deputy to Paula Bennett. As for professing 100% support for Bridges…that’s true until he doesn’t.

Bridges now looks hapless, out of control of his caucus and fighting off mulitiple challenges. He had his pals with him in parliament yesterday and yet the leaks still happened. That tells you all there is to know.

If he wants to carry on the fight then he is just destroying the party. It looks like he’s going to do a David Cunliffe on his way out the door.

Simon Bridges is now dying a death by a thousand cuts.
