Can We Fix the Education of Boys?

As I am preparing for the privilege of being on the education panel and 2023 NZ Economics Forum, I still shake my head at where we have got to. With regards to boys’ education, three graphs are telling.

Keep in mind at the real pinch-points the data is even worse – for instance 33 per cent of boys in South Auckland leave school without any qualification at all – after 13,200 hours of funded schooling.

The important thing the top graph shows is that, as Manukura does for Maori education, the two Catholic boys schools (and a few others) show that it is not being male that is an educational problem… it is how the schooling is done. We should be beating a pathway to highly successful schools and mimicking their success.
