Ted Cruz has described the shocking accusations made by the Durham investigation as “bigger than Watergate”. That may or may not be true, but there’s one massive difference between Watergate and Durham: the media.

The media threw everything into exposing Watergate. Now they’re throwing everything into burying the Durham investigation.

Something that’s often forgotten about the Watergate scandal is just how long it took to come to light. The break-in was in June 1972. The first press allegations linking the burglary to a massive cover-up by the White House appeared in October that year, on the eve of the presidential election. Still, Nixon cruised to a landslide victory.

The scandal didn’t really escalate until the early months of 1973. The subsequent Senate hearings dragged on through the rest of the year. Still, it wasn’t until the middle of 1974 that the scandal came to a head. In August 1974, more than two years after the “third-rate burglary attempt” that started it all unravelling, Nixon finally resigned.

So — two years from go to woe. And that was with the media actually doing their job. But, whether the media want it or not, the truth will out, eventually.

Sen. Ted Cruz said Sunday that Republicans could end up getting the last laugh after all the ridicule directed at then-President Donald Trump when he alleged that the Obama administration spied on him.

“You and I both remember when President Trump said the Democrats are spying on me,” the Texas Republican said to host Bill Hemmer on “Fox News Sunday.”

“And the corporate media collectively laughed at him, they mocked at him, they said what a ridiculous claim for him to make. Well if what special counsel Durham is alleging is true, what Donald Trump said was absolutely right,” he said.

Trump first tweeted that he had discovered that the Obama administration was spying on his campaign back in 2017. The media sneered and mocked the claim.

In fact, if the allegations made in light of recent developments by the Durham investigation are true, Trump if anything understated the egregiousness of Democrat wrongdoing. In a web even more complex than the chain of deceit linking the Watergate burglars back to the Nixon White House, Hillary Clinton’s campaign lawyer Michael Sussman has been accused of lying to the FBI. Further, Sussman has been connected to tech companies alleged to have spied on Trump, as a candidate and then president.

Supporters of the former president saw the filing as confirmation of a far-reaching conspiracy against Trump that included Clinton, the media, major tech companies and the apparatus of the federal government. “In a stronger period of time in our country, this crime would have been punishable by death,” Trump said in response to the filing […]

Cruz said if the substance of the allegations in Durham’s filing were proved true, the scandal would be far larger in scope than the Watergate scandal that toppled President Richard Nixon in 1974.

As Cruz says, people went to jail over Watergate. If the allegations coming out now are true, a great many people will also be looking at jail time.

But, with the mainstream media diligently running cover for their man in the White House, they’ll have plenty of time to get their affairs in order.

In the end, though, all that the media’s cover-ups may well achieve is to drag the scandal out until it fatally overshadows the attempted resurrection of Hillary Clinton’s ambitions.
