After 10 hours of deliberations over two days, a jury at the Auckland High Court has found Dr Philip Polkinghorne not guilty of killing his wife, Pauline Hanna, in their Remuera home in April 2021.
The verdict, read out on Monday afternoon, provoked gasps from some people in the public gallery.
Justice Graham Lang thanked the 11 jurors for their service.
The trial lasted eight weeks, with the jury hearing from over 80 witnesses for both the Crown and defence.
