Prince Al-Waleed bin Khalid Al Saud, widely known as the “Sleeping Prince”, suffered severe brain injuries and internal bleeding in 2005 when he was just 15 years old. He had been studying at a military college in the UK at the time of the accident.
The prince never regained full consciousness and was kept on life support at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, where he remained for 20 years.
His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, confirmed the news of his death in a statement posted on social media.
Quoting a verse from the Quran, he wrote: “With hearts believing in Allah’s will and decree, and with deep sorrow and sadness, we mourn our beloved son.”
