Wētā FX has informed staff it is proposing changes to around 100 roles in its support departments, largely based in Wellington.
In an email received by staff on Thursday, seen by Stuff, Wētā FX chief executive Daniel Seah said the changes will affect support roles based mostly in the capital.
“We will work through a formal consultation process with those crew who are affected,” the email read. “The departments currently involved in this process are Department Production, Marketing, Finance, Facilities, T&C, T&R, IT and Central Production.”
One staff member, speaking to Stuff on the condition of anonymity, said it is not uncommon for artistic crew numbers to fluctuate between projects. But it is unusual for back office permanent staff to be affected, they said.
In a statement released to media on Friday, Wētā FX said it had about 2200 crew globally, most of whom were contracted artists that were not impacted by the proposed change process.
