Running sensation Sam Ruthe clocked a sizzling 3min 48.88sec on his way to winning the Boston University Terrier Classic on Sunday (NZT).
Not only did it shatter Nick Willis’ previous indoor mark of 3min 51.06sec, set a decade ago in New York, it knocked off Sir John Walker’s overall mile mark, clocked more than four decades ago. [...]
Not only did Ruthe’s time set a new national standard, it shattered his own under-20 world record, and was the 11th fastest indoor mile of all-time, just 0.01sec behind world champion Josh Kerr.
In a race in which Ruthe was the youngest in the field by three years, he finished well clear of second-placed Belgium Pieter Sisk (3min 50.31sec).
