Labour’s Deborah Russell was spotted knitting in the background during Parliament’s Question Time on Wednesday. Some Stuff readers were outraged – are they right to be?

If you were watching Parliament TV on Wednesday, or clips of it on the evening news, you might have spotted a woman knitting in the background during another MP’s speech.

That woman was Labour’s Deborah Russell who sat there with her needles and ball of yarn while her colleague Ginny Andersen fired off questions to finance minister Nicola Willis.

Russell’s act of knitting prompted some feedback into Stuff’s inbox. One of them said “I’m outraged at the footage of a Labour MP knitting in Question Time. These people!!! Knitting!!!!”.
