ROSA WOODS/STUFF Sonia Towersey and Michael Sims are the first couple to get married in Lower Hutt’s newly rebuilt Te Omanga Hospice.
Watching his partner of 30 years and the mother of his three children being wheeled down the aisle in a gifted white wedding dress sparked a surge of emotions for Michael Sims.
The love of his life, Sonia Towersey, was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer after the pair arrived home from their first holiday without their three children in March.
Having been engaged for 20 years, it took a gentle prod from their 21-year-old son Dylan Sims to get the pair to exchange their vows at Te Omanga Hospice on Saturday afternoon, the first couple to do so since its $10 million rebuild.
