Harry S Truman famously said, ‘Show me a man that gets rich by being a politician, and I’ll show you a crook’. Bernie Sanders has got very rich by being a politician. So have Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Chuck Schumer, Elizabeth Warren and countless other Democrats. Which is not to say that Democrats have a monopoly on crooks and venality. But the Democrats’ venality stands is particularly stark contrast to their conceit of being the party of the poor and oppressed.
They don’t waste any time grabbing all the loot they can, as soon as they get any sort of office, either. New DNC Vice Chair David Hogg is living up to his name: shoving his snout as deep into the trough and oinking for all the slops he can stuff into his gob.
Some Democratic insiders are already expressing concerns over newly elected Democratic National Committee (DNC) Vice Chair David Hogg just two weeks into his tenure in leadership.
Hogg has already ruffled some feathers within the DNC for using the committee’s contact list to solicit donations for his own political action committee (PAC), Leaders We Deserve, according to a report from the New York Post.
It’s not as if Hogg isn’t rolling in the slops enough, already. At age 24, he’s already trousering an annual 100-grand salary.
But too much is never enough for a Democrat on the make.
According to a report by the New York Post, Hogg has sent fundraising messages to DNC contact lists, directing recipients to donate to his PAC, from which he reportedly earns over $100,000 per year. One of the eight messages sent to the DNC database read: “David Hogg here: I was just elected DNC Vice Chair! This is a huge win for our movement to make the Democratic Party more reflective of our base: youthful, energetic, and ready to win.”
The texts included a link to Hogg’s “Leaders We Deserve” PAC.
Note that the PAC is not a general Democrat slush fund, but a personal earner for little piggy Hogg, which he can legally spend in any way he likes. And what an earner it’s already been.
Hogg co-founded Leaders We Deserve in August 2023 with the stated goal of electing young progressive candidates. Since then, he has personally earned more than $175,000 from the PAC. While his fundraising tactics don’t violate official DNC rules, some officials claim it’s an ethical issue.
Even for the party of Biden Inc. It’s all a bit too obviously grasping and greedy.
The move has sparked backlash among some party officials. One top Democrat reportedly told the New York Post, “David Hogg – talk about living up to your name. A trough of DNC dollars all for him and he doesn’t seem to give an oink” […]
“It’s especially important for all Democratic national officials to focus on raising support for the party and not using their position to raise money for themselves or their personal political PACS,” another senior Democratic Party official said. “It’s a stunning lack of judgment that is concerning to many people.”
Then again, self-promotion and self-aggrandisement has been Hogg’s modus operandi from the get-go. Having gone home after the 2018 school shooting that made him famous, he raced back later in the evening when the media had arrived and touted for attention. It worked: he got himself into the limelight and has resolutely hogged it (no pun intended) ever since.
Some of his fellow students on the day are less than impressed.
“I mean it’s just very frustrating to be in a party in desperate need of increased accountability for our struggling leadership, and watch someone who is never held accountable ascend to leadership,” said Cameron Kasky, who was also a Stoneman Douglas survivor.
Kasky has previously said of Hogg, “Welcome to America: everything ends up a grift.”
Hogg responded to the report by saying he “was not doing any interviews”.
Well, that’d be a first. Maybe they weren’t offering a stipend.
