Has Tova O’Brien taken on the character of “Lady Macbeth?”
Tall dark and menacing and capable of coming in for the kill?
Lady Macbeth was the instigator of the machinations behind the demise of King Duncan in Shakespeare’s play “Macbeth”.
An interview with Tova O’Brien is like facing the ‘Inquisition’ with instruments of torture at the ready, as ‘King Kris’ (Faafoi) found out on Mediawork’s Nation.
The trap question from Tova was: “Would Millennials be branded as haters if they called property owners Boomers?” ‘King Kris’ thought that “potentially” they would be if their “intent” was to incite hatred towards them. This answer seemed to be retracted later by the ‘Red Queen’ (Ardern). Tova also asked: “If someone said gays were going to Hell would they be prosecuted?”
‘King Kris’ said he didn’t want to nickel and dime it, and under Tova’s torturous questioning finally said the police would decide these things. Really! Are we in a police state now? Can’t the cabinet decide what Hate Speech is?
‘Dunkin Donut’ (Garner) asked the Red Queen on the AM show if “over the top mad Christians” would be arrested for their utterances. Being the Queen of Obfuscation as well, she gave no direct answer except to say that if someone expressed a desire to kill the Christians the new law would apply. Yet the existing law already covers incitement to kill.
The interview of Ardern on the AM show seemed to get Tova steamed up. Her next salvo on Newshub’s Opinion was that the ‘Red Queen’ was misleading the public and that she was “utterly and completely wrong”. Not only was the Prime Minister wrong about the basic facts of the proposals, but she was also wrong to shut down the debate with glib answers.
Nekminute ‘Twinkle Toes’ (Seymour) chimes in with, “this is Cancel Culture On Steroids.”
The Left had a go as well with Martyn Bradbury opining that “The Life of Brian” could be cancelled. At this rate, I think it is more likely that the career of O’Brien could be cancelled. Tova asked if someone said the Prime Minister is a dictator would this be Hate Speech under the new law but she couldn’t get an answer to her question from ‘King Kris’.
Waikanae Watch had the last laugh asking, “What had happened to the devout tele-evangelist Tova who had formerly supported the Dear Leader?”
Has heresy entered into the congregation or has Tova just seen the light?
The ‘Queen Bee’, while she sits in her Beehive in Wellington, would do well to dwell on the words of Scottish 19th Century author and poet Sir Walter Scott.
“Oh what a tangled web we weave when we first set out to deceive”.
