The media are the biggest cry-bullies there are. They are wailing because Google is going to walk if they end up being taxed to protect failing media companies.
You have to love the mainstream media. They have a moribund business model so they lobby the government, and ignore the irony of them campaigning against lobbyists, to bully Google and other social media companies into paying a tax for essentially providing a link to the media’s content.
Then when Google turns around and says get stuffed, the same media who were calling for the bullying of Google then turn around and claim Google is bullying them.
We take this as the price of the relative peace and prosperity we have come to expect. And yet it somehow doesn’t keep delivering peace and prosperity. Instead, we now have endless war and the privations and hardships that war necessarily entails.
The challenge, then, isn’t to beat the machines but to learn to work meaningfully alongside them. Every major leap in technology has shifted what counted as valuable work, and this one is no different.
We think there are literally malignant ghosts in the machines.
