Letter to the Editor: Co-governance like the House of Lords

Dear Editor

May I say how delighted I am that the Government is going down the He Puapua route and co-governance. It will remind me of the old country- Great Britain.  I refer, of course, to the House of Lords, which represented the land and capital-owning aristocracy mostly from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.  How wonderful that New Zealand is considering a similar model, where an unelected minority with often little or no skills and- I hate to say it- occasionally very little brain, is set to lord it over the people.

Unfortunately it was that nasty little man Tony Blair who reformed this noble institution and filled it with his bureaucrat cronies.  I am sure New Zealand is wise enough to ensure that only the finest Maori bloodlines will be represented.  I look forward to seeing the legislation.

Signed

DS

Labor Fiddles While Melbourne Burns

Melbourne cannot be turned back into a liveable city without hurting the feelings of the minority groups causing the problems. Police resources should be redirected away from speech and thought crimes, and devoted to stopping the foreign gangs who are terrorising the city.
