Living the Olympic Dream, or What Comes After Communism?

OPINION

What really stood out about the 2024 Olympics was how stale it all seemed. Not boring – it certainly had some exciting moments. Rather, the whole event felt like it had zero vision of the future – no energy.

The Olympics is the best world stage for a vision. It was a huge opportunity for the regime to present its narrative and keep everyone interested in its conception of the future. Yet all we got was a tired, pedestrian theatre of being forced, yet again, to celebrate men dressed up as women or that so few ‘white’ people were on some podiums. Yawn. None of this is ‘transgressive’ or ‘edgy’. It’s your grandmother’s communism. Stale and senile.
